75.000m2 office area
invited competition
Sonnemannstrasse, Frankfurt aM, DE
In 2002, the European Central Bank acquired the terrain of the wholesale market in Frankfurt, including the listed building of the market hall.

The bank then invited a range of international offices to develop a design for its new head office, incorporating the market hall. The building is treated as an open network structure without hierarchies. It facilitates a free and clear stream of data, material and people. Within this stream, new connections can develop constantly.

The building visualizes the structure of interior and exterior networks it accomodates, while at the same time relating to the functional architecture of the market hall.

Its surroundings are designed as a transparent, plain land-scape, regulating both access and security.
